Want To Rock has more than stamped herself as a filly to follow through her brief but impressive racing career so far, and co-trainer Simon Zahra has revealed she is on track for her second career start in the 2016 Blue Diamond Preview F (1000m) at Caulfield on Australia Day.
Want To Rock has made only one competitive appearance at the races so far but made her intentions clear when beating a number of notable runners to the line in the New Year Plate (1000m) at Flemington on January 1st.
Jumping from the gates well in the New Year Plate, jockey Katelyn Mallyon allowed the filly to stride forward and found a position with the field of seven; allowing the early leaders to set something of a notable pace.
Rounding onto the final straight with a clear racing line, the Wanted filly produced a slick turn of foot to pull clear and register an ideal racing debut.
Zahra told Racing Ahead the team has been pleased with the form displayed by the two-year-old so far, and she will contest the 2016 Blue Diamond Preview should she come through a Friday hit-out in good order.
“She’ll certainly be there,” Zahra said.
“She’s in good order and we just gave her a nice light week after Flemington and we’ve built her back up nice a slow.
“She’ll have a good hit-out Friday morning and all goes to plan she’ll run Tuesday.
“She really wanted to go and she’s only going to improve off that. It was probably the first time we’ve really let her go and her sectionals were fantastic to go with it.
“She’s got to step up another grade and hopefully we can work our way into the Diamond.”
The 2016 Blue Diamond Preview F field is due to be completed and released by midday, Monday January 25th.
