February 8th, 2010

Psychologist, trained by Tony Vasil, won the 2010 Blue Diamond Prelude Filly race on Saturday at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse in a fantastic run.

The day proved an exciting turn of events as the filly ran her first major race winning by an astounding 4 ¼ lengths and in a new race record at 1.02.67. However the record did not last long, with Beneteau winning the colts and geldings race in 1.02.45 later in the day.

The wins mean that odds and favourites for the coveted 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes on the 20th have been turned on their heads with the two streaking to the fore at Sportsbet.

Psychologist jumped to the start of the field from the fourth barrier and did not lose her position throughout the 1100m race, seeing She’s Got Gears and Jalsah coming in behind her, to take the second and third spots respectively.

John McArdle-trained Sweet Cheeks went into Saturday’s 2010 Blue Diamond Prelude (F) as favourite for the win but came in to take the unexpected sixth spot.

With two weeks to go until the illustrious Group 1 race, the 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes, the horses now all have eyes for the $1 million on offer on the 20th.
