2010 Blue Diamond Prelude Colts & Geldings Nominations

February 2nd, 2010

Caulfield Racecourse is gearing up to host their first major race meeting of the autumn this Saturday, the C F Orr Stakes Day. The headline race of the day is of course the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes, however in anticipation of the highly revered $1million Group 1 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes on February 20, the two Group 3 Blue Diamond Preludes running this Saturday are also drawing much attention.

Dividing up the sexes, there is a prelude for two-year-old fillies and another for colts & geldings both run over the same 1100m distance under the exact set weights conditions as the Blue Diamond Stakes in a fortnight’s time.

The $126 500 Group 3 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Prelude for Colts & Geldings has drawn 15 nominations

The $126 500 Group 3 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Prelude for Colts & Geldings has drawn 15 nominations, with leading trainer David Hayes dominating with three nominees.

Hayes has In Faith, Gigstar and Legalistic all hoping for a run with In Faith the only one of the three to have had a previous career start.

Peter Snowden is the trainer of the current pre-race favourite in the 2010 Blue Diamond futures market, Secession. The bay Lonhro colt has had just one career start, when he won on debut in the Merson Cooper Stakes back in November.

Beneteau, trained by Paul Messara, is the other highly promising colt nominated for the event gaining lots of support from the bookies and punters. The son of Redoute’s Choice won on debut at Randwick on Australia Day and will be ridden on Saturday by the same jockey who was aboard for the victory, Daniel Ganderton.

Beneteau is second favourite to take out the Prelude on Saturday and occupies the fourth line of betting for the Blue Diamond on February 20.

Punters are also advised to keep an eye on the Mark Riley-trained Innocent Gamble. The Elvstroem colt is another two-year-old fresh off a debut win on Australia Day in the Blue Diamond Colts and Geldings Preview (1000m).

Riley has engaged in-form hoop Nash Rawiller to ride Innocent Gamble both this Saturday and in the Blue Diamond Stakes if the colt gets as far; Rawiller replacing Damien Oliver who rode Innocent Gamble to his victory last Tuesday.

Another trainer with multiple nominees on the path to the Blue Diamond is Lee Freedman with Pellizotti and Engine.

The final field of acceptances will be announced later this week.
